Zombro skateboard refurb

I’d taken multiple stabs at refurbishing old 90’s skateboards but it just wouldn’t click. In 2019 I decided to finally get serious about my airbrushing and once the early quarentine days hit for Covid in 2020 I had the perfect project to work on. If I’m not mistaken this was a Variflex skateboard I’d picked up off ebay. Had all original hardware on it. I took it apart, removed grip tape, sanded and primed it. Then it sat in my garage for a couple years. After hitting it with some acrylics and hating that I re-sanded and re-primed it. Then I went to my old standby, when in doubt make Zombro!

Max takin Zombro for his first ride, before all the scratches…

Base Painting

The slideshow below shows the base painting of Zombro. All airbrushing at this point, nothing too fancy.

Line Art & Highlights

Not many progress shots here since I did the line art and highlights in one jam session while hanging out in the living room with the kiddos. Used my inking brushes and black airbrush paint for this part.

Hardware

Besides the original yellow nose and tail guards I got all new hardware for this project. Again this is my first custom skateboard so it took a couple tries! But a little research and patience gets the job done. The wheels are Slime Balls Big Balls 65mm. Trucks are Tensor with a nice blue finish. Slider rails are Doom Sayers. The risers are risers… I had the grip tape for a different idea for years. I love me some caution stripes!
