This was a fun project that has miles on it now. When I was working at Blizzard Entertainment they had an 80’s themed holiday party one year. I love 80’s metal, where I taught myself to draw basically copying album covers. So I wanted to create a real punk/metal vest to wear to the party. Our house is hardcore Adventure Time fans and the rat king episode was pretty recent so what was more metal than that!?
I’d never done leather painting before, but had recently been learning leather working so I did what I do best, jump right in and learn as I go! Below are progress shots of the paint job. I also did all the hardware (spikes & stars) myself. See, that leather working came in to play! On a long enough timeline all hobbies are the same hobby:)
